Decorating Shabby Cottage Chic Style

Shabby cottage chic has become a style that is increasing in popularity every day. Many find the style to not only be relaxing, but also very inviting and romantic. One space that many are always looking for these traits in is the bedroom. The shabby cottage chic style is a great way to transform a bedroom into an inviting, relaxing, romantic space. What about creating a space without painting the walls? An easy few fixes can start the transformation!
The first step to creating your own romantic bedroom is to choose the right type of bedding. You want something lightweight, but also light in color. A white bedspread with roses is a great addition for a shabby chic room, and choosing comforter made from feathers is very comfortable. Fluff up any bed with some great pillows, in light colors. Extra plush pillows will be great to sink into when you’re ready to fall into slumber.
After choosing your bedding, you’ll want to choose complimentary window treatments. A sheer window curtain is light and inviting, and allows for a lot of sun to enter the space making it a warm area. If your preference is not for sheer curtains, you can use a light color green, pink, or yellow. Many stores now make flowery curtains readily available, ad inexpensive prices.
Make sure to hang plenty of fixtures on the walls to make the space more homey and inviting. Mirror fixtures are great to help make the space appear larger, especially when placed in a part of the room that may be thinner than the rest of the space. A gold framed mirror, or light color framed mirror will compliment the space Paintings of your favorite quotes, or floral artwork will just add the extra oomph to the space. Pictures of friends and family is a great way to quickly and easily make the space your own, and paired up with a great picture frame, this space will feel homey in no time.
If able to paint the walls, make sure to choose a light and bright color, such as a pale green, or yellow. White is a classic and looks great in any shabby cottage chic space, especially when paired up with complimentary wall pieces. A chandelier style light fixture is sure to be eye catching and a great center piece to the space, and will add just a bit more to the romantic feel. Be sure to choose furniture pieces that aid in the shabby cottage chic feel. Many garage sales and thrift stores will sell great pieces at greatly discounted prices. Some of these items are easy to just paint a great color to compliment the space, and “shab” up to give that shabby cottage chic appearance.
Once completed, this room will surely become your favorite area to curl up at night, and enjoy a book in, or cuddle with a special someone.
